It is dedicated to Martin Wickramasinghe (1890-1976), an eminent Sri Lankan author who is often acclaimed as the father of modern Sinhala literature. The Martin Wickramasinghe Trust has built a Folk Museum Complex around the house where Martin Wickramasinghe was born, which is surrounded by a restored ecosystem with hundreds of varieties of indigenous trees and shrubs and abundant bird life. The house and its surroundings bring to life a small part of the Koggala that Wickramasinghe vividly depicts in his writings. The Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum is an expansive house and garden that once belonged to Sri Lanka's greatest folk author. It has now been converted into a museum that preserves his memories, accomplishments, traditional attire from various regions in Sri Lanka, along with puppets, masks and other intriguing artefacts from the past.
