Quite awhile back,(maybe 15+ years ago), I learned that Orvis "Outlet Stores" might have some of "Demo" large arbor reels available at prices significantly lower priced than the then-current retail prices. I called a few of the Orvis Outlets and found one.
These are well made reels, but with some caveats. First, the drag is simple and o.k. for salt if maintained, but not high performance. Second, the arbor is a super large arbor which is good for line management but not great line capacity. The spool dimensions are narrow and large diameter. The design is fine for light salt, IMO. Smoother operation from tightened tolerances. Kink-free leader storage from a curved reelfoot. Audible, positive outgoing click. Standard arbor with a ported design. Built of 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum with an ergonomic Delrin handle. Battenkill Click I is 2.8" diameter for 1-3wt. rods, II is 3" for 3-5wt. and III is 3.25" for 5-7wt.
