Wirt is a relatively tall and rather thin young teenage boy with a red pointed gnome hat made from an old Santa hat. His outfit consists of a navy blue cape with six yellow buttons (not dissimilar to a ww2 era nurse's cape), simple grey pants that reach his ankles, suspenders, and a classic buttoned up white shirt. Personality The Beast is a manipulative and mysterious being. He is solely motivated by his own self-preservation and is indifferent to the pain and suffering caused by his actions. The Beast is very well-spoken and speaks matter-of-factly, traits he uses to lull his victims into a false sense of security, accomplished by feigning concern. The Beast is the hopelessness of the woods - the feeder on the desperate and those who have become too lost to even attempt to keep finding their way. When fighting with Wirt and the woodsmen in the final episode, a light flashes on the Beast and - for just a flash - we see what he truly looks like when not an imperceptible shadow. The American animated television miniseries Over the Garden Wall features a cast of fictional characters created by Patrick McHale. The series revolves around two half-brothers: Wirt (voiced by Elijah Wood ), the awkward and pessimistic older brother, and Gregory (voiced by Collin Dean ), the energetic and optimistic younger brother.

Wirt, it's eventually determined, is a Pilgrim—"traveler on a sacred journey [and] master of [his] own destiny"—but he becomes increasingly isolationist over the course of the series, and it's eventually revealed that by withdrawing from Greg and Beatrice, he's risked losing himself to despair, succumbing to the Beast and forfeiting his chance to go home. Wirt uses the Woodsman's axe to free Greg and escape, and the Woodsman extinguishes the lantern, destroying the Beast. Afterwards, Wirt and Greg wake up whilst drowning in a cold river, revealing that The Unknown was some form of purgatory.
