1 Answer Sorted by: 21 The section on attunement is quite long, so I won't reproduce it here, but it refers exclusively to a "creature". It doesn't say anything about a player, a player character, a humanoid, or anything else that would exclude familiars from being able to attune to magic items. Find Familiar takes 1 hr to cast or 1 hr 10 min to Ritual Cast. So just charging up the ring is going to take your Wizard 5 hrs and 50 min or 5 hrs + 5 spell slots. Now we throw in another 2 hrs per person to get a Familiar (short rest for attunement + 1 hr to cast the spell).
