Corps colours, or Troop-function colours ( ge: " Waffenfarbe (n)") were traditional worn in the German Wehrmacht from 1935 until 1945 as way to distinguish between several branches, special services, corps, rank groups and appointments of the ministerial area, general staff, Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, up to the military branches Heer, Luftwaffe. Color film was quite rare in World War II. The majority of the photos taken during the war were in black and white, and color photography as a whole was still a relatively new technique. It's this fact that makes these photos so mesmerizing and amazing. All the pictures are in their original state, not colorized or edited.
