The Canadian grizzly bear population of 25,000 occupy British Columbia, Alberta, northern Manitoba, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. Alaska has the largest population with 30,000 grizzly bears, followed by British Columbia with a population of 15,000. Smaller populations are also found in Idaho (100), Wyoming (600), and Montana (800). The recovery zones identified are: The Greater Yellowstone, referred to as GYE, in northwestern Wyoming, eastern Idaho and southwestern Montana The Northern Continental Divide, referred to as NCDE, of north-central Montana The North Cascades area of north-central Washington

The grizzly bear, an iconic symbol of North America's wild landscapes, has long captured the imagination of nature enthusiasts and conservationists alike.With their powerful presence and awe-inspiring strength, these majestic creatures play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystems they inhabit.However, human impacts have led to a reduction in their range and population. Verified grizzly bear locations from a variety of sources, including VHF and GPS telemetry locations, sightings, mortalities, and human-bear conflicts for consecutive 10-year period were compiled and mapped onto a 3-km by 3-km grid. Zonal analysis and ordinary kriging was then applied to develop a predicted surface of occupied range. Brown bears also occur in Russia, Europe, Scandinavia, and Asia. Grizzly bears are large and range in color from very light tan (almost white) to dark brown. They have a dished face, short, rounded ears, and a large shoulder hump. The hump is where a mass of muscles attach to the bear's backbone and give the bear additional strength for digging. Species List Areas ( or "may be present" map) help federal agencies determine where effects to listed species should be considered for consultation from actions they carry out, fund, or permit to meet requirements under Section7 (a) of the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
