From what I remember, there was a Tumblr essay that sparked all of this. The essay proposed that the Potters were Indian, and thus, Harry is mixed race. This is all from memory and google fact checking, as I can't find the original posting. Where comes the idea of an Indian/half Indian Harry from? At first I thought the author added that for the plot. But until then I came across many more stories with a Harry with Indian heritage. Harry Potter is by far one of the biggest Hollywood franchises that is immensely popular in India. The protagonist, played by Daniel Radcliff, is one of the most loved characters amongst the 90s kids. Bringing the same magic to the big screens, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is planning to make an 'Indian equivalent to' the Harry Potter franchise. Harry as half-Indian or black Hermione are concepts that just make sense, but because of the movies' pervasive influence, they weren't considered by the masses until fan art pointed them out. Even something like Harry's scar as a true scrawling lightning bolt is a cool interpretation that gets more and more thoughts rolling.
