Only ten years after establishing her firm, Zaha Hadid broke into Japan with her first built interior project, Moonsoon Restaurant and Bar in Sapporo, Japan in 1990. The result is two synthetic and strange worlds: fire and ice. The Moonsoon restaurant and bar in Sapporo, Japan, dismantled and forgotten - until now - was one of them. Walking into the small exhibition room nestled deep in the brick-walled maze of the Bowling Green Estate, I was initially underwhelmed by the minimal exhibit, with its salvaged and reproduced items provided by the Zaha Hadid Foundation. Tables are sharp fragments of ice: a raised floor level drifts like an iceberg across the space. Above the ice chamber whirls a furnace of fire, rendered in searing reds.
