And understandably so, cause the 109 is a much smaller aircraft, and therefore has a much much smaller wetted area, which not only is a big advantage for pure speed but also maneuverability. The smaller the wetted area the better.. BF-109K-4 = 454 mph @ 6 km. P-51H = 451 mph @ 6.4 km. P-51H level flight data. The advantages of the P-51 are: - way way better visibility all around which lets you loose your opponent less often The Bf.109 F-4 is extremely good for it's BR, but the Bf.109 G-10 is extremely mediocre. G-2 and G-6s are good. The P-51 D-5 is hot garbage because it climbs like shit, accelerates like shit, has a massive minimum fuel load, and the rudder locks at high speed. However the P-51H is just outright better than any Bf.109 variant in every measurable.
