Piacenza Cathedral (Italian: Duomo di Piacenza), fully the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta e Santa Giustina, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Piacenza, Italy.The current structure was built between 1122 and 1233 and is one of the most valuable examples of a Romanesque cathedral in northern Italy. The dedication is to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and to Saint Justina. Pienza is located in the gorgeous Val d'Orcia region of central Tuscany, where cypress trees line winding roads and sun-bleached valleys. Pienza is known as the first "ideal Renaissance town." It was the brainchild of Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who would later become Pope Pius II. Piccolomini hired the architect Bernardo Rossellino. The Cathedral Santa Maria Assunta better known as Cathedral of Pienza is located in the city center of Pienza next to Palazzo Borgia and Palazzo Piccolomini. The complex rises on the ancient Pieve si Santa Maria.It was built by Bernardo Rossellino commissioned by Pius II. Cathedral of St Maria Assunta Pienza is a lovely town in southern Tuscany, near Siena. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for being the first town to implement the Renaissance concept of urban design to an entire city, planned as "an ideal town" which was later used in other areas of Tuscany and Italy. Pienza Cathedral, the Cattedrale dell'Assunta dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is one of the highlights of Pienza and a UNESCO listed site. It's a harmonious Renaissance building with elements of Late Gothic, which boasts some impressive 15th century paintings by artists of the Sienese school. The primitive structure dates back to 1075, but the façade as it is was modified in 1463. The two majestic towers are original only in their lower part. The right tower was modified in 1532 by the council, that had the belfry window carried out, and also obtained the bishops permission to put a clock in it. The left one was the true belfry, and originally had a three-mullioned window on three.
