Ufw solves this, but it has lesser skills. - peterh 1 Answer Sorted by: 2 UFW is just a frontend for iptables to make it easier to manage. If you create your rules with ufw, you'll see them when you run iptables -L -n -v. iptables gives you more flexibility, but it's also slightly more complicated to configure - so use whichever one you're most happy with.
ufw vs. iptables
1 Answer. ufw is a front-end for netfilter/iptables, the Linux mechanism for routing and filtering internet traffic. ufw is completely optional and it's possible to create firewall and routing tables directly using the iptables commands. Some people prefer the syntax of ufw, which is supposed to make it a bit easier. Ufw and firewalld are, however, primarily designed to solve the kinds of problems faced by stand-alone computers. Building full-sized network solutions will often require the extra muscle of iptables or, since 2014, its replacement, nftables (through the nft command line tool). iptables hasn't gone anywhere and is still widely used. please note: ufw uses iptables under the hood, and, in a system that has nftables, the iptables is basically using nftables through xtables-nft shim. so. in summary. use ufw - Jaromanda X May 18, 2023 at 6:24 If you want to use Docker or any other container runtime, it's probably better to use iptables. Most interfere with nftables. These are very different programs. ufw is a tool for configuring an ip tables firewall, while firewalld is a complete replacement firewall with a different feature set to iptables. - Graham Hill Nov 22, 2013 at 9:52 Well, that is just patently false. Firewalld is itself yet another wrapper over Netfilter--the same as UFW.

ufw vs. iptables May 31, 2023 2 min read Development When it comes to configuring firewall on Ubuntu server, you have two primary options: ufw (Uncomplicated Firewall) and iptables. Both tools provide firewall functionality but differ in terms of ease of use and complexity. ufw (Uncomplicated Firewall) UFW ( u ncomplicated f ire w all) is a firewall configuration tool that runs on top of iptables, included by default within Ubuntu distributions. It provides a streamlined interface for configuring common firewall use cases via the command line. The Uncomplicated Firewall ( ufw) is a frontend for iptables and is particularly well-suited for host-based firewalls. ufw provides a framework for managing netfilter, as well as a command-line interface for manipulating the firewall. ufw aims to provide an easy to use interface for people unfamiliar with firewall concepts, while at the same tim. The Uncomplicated Firewall (UFW) is a command-line firewall abstraction layer that automatically uses either iptables or nftables as a back-end firewall. UFW is a tool that minimizes the effort of setting up a firewall by starting with an optimal default configuration.
ufw VS iptables quel est le meilleur
There are at least two (That's how many I know) ways to configure iptables rules: By ufw - Uncomplicated Firewall - which is also a commands tool, but it simplifies is a lot. Instead of running iptables command with flags; e.g. iptables -A INPUT -s
-j ACCEPT, we are simply typing combination of keywords such as sudo ufw allow from
UFW. The uncomplicated firewall (ufw) is a frontend for iptables and is particularly well-suited for host-based firewalls. ufw provides a framework for managing netfilter, as well as a command-line interface for manipulating the firewall. ufw aims to provide an easy-to-use interface for people unfamiliar with firewall concepts, while at the same time simplifies complicated iptables commands to. I used a script to set up iptables rules and then made them persistent with iptables-persistant.This is described here as a means to prevent a certain user sending traffic over eth0 so it can just use tun0 aka a VPN.. But I also use ufw to easily manage firewall rules.. Now, if I make the rules persistant ufw seems not beeing able to load its own rules on top of that.
ufw vs. iptables
Uncomplicated Firewall (UFW) is the default firewall configuration tool for Ubuntu and has been developed to ease iptables firewall configuration by providing a friendly method to create an Ipv4 or Ipv6 host-based firewall. Firewalld I like UFW, it's easy to add, delete or disable rules. The problem it adds huge number of rules to iptables file, making iptables more complicated. Applications add rules using iptables. These rules don't show up in ufw. Since ufw makes Iptables files a mess, it's hard to check application rules. I haven't used NFtables.
