The Airbus A320 family is a series of narrow-body airliners developed and produced by Airbus . The A320 was launched in March 1984, first flew on 22 February 1987, and was introduced in April 1988 by Air France . Unlike the Airbus A320-200, the Airbus A320-100 was never equipped with wingtip fences (WTF). Fitted at the end of the wings, WTFs are designed to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency. Airbus A320-200s were built with WTFs and later retrofitted with more advanced sharklets. Photo: BriYYZ via Flickr.

The A320-200 continues to serve a plethora of operators around the world, with the primary operators being Lufthansa, British Airways, and Easyjet to name a few. A320-100 vs A320-200 When comparing the two variants of the Airbus A320, it is apparent that the -100 had numerous shortcomings in relation to performance. The A320 is the first Airbus to offer customers a choice of powerplant. Initially, the A320 was only powered by CFM International's CFM56-5-A1. However, a version equipped with the IAE's V2500-A1 was soon made available. The IAE engine produces 2% less thrust than its CFM counterpart, 110 kN to 111.2 kN. NEO is one of many upgrades introduced by Airbus to maintain its A320 product line's position as the world's most advanced and fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft family. The A320neo brings minimum change with maximum benefit through the availability of two advanced engine choices - Pratt & Whitney's PurePower PW1100G-JM geared.
