1907-1917-1924-1932-1939-1947 : The colour is called "yellow-brown". The 1917 repainting was delayed because of the war. 1954-61 : A new colour for the Eiffel Tower: "brownish-red". Since 1968 : The colour "Eiffel Tower Brown" is chosen for its harmony with the Parisian cityscape. Since 1968, the choice has been a fairly neutral color made up of three shades of brown (called "Eiffel Tower brown"). It is darker at the base of the tower and lightens as it goes up to give a visual impression of uniformity. Construction of the Eiffel Tower began in 1887 and took just two years, two months and five days. The "300-meter Tower," as it was known then, opened on May 15, 1889, at the Exposition Universelle, or Paris World's Fair.
