I watched a video about Grell Sutcliff's gender earlier this year, but can no longer find it. It was a timeline breakdown of the tv shows and manga gendering of Grell. It also talked about Yana Toboso not having complete freedom of writing of Grell. And then Yana eventually confirmation of Grell's gender. I assume it came out just a few months ago. Again, Grell explicitly self-identifies as an okama. Okama are effeminate gay men and/or crossdressers, who identify as male, who use feminine pronouns as a way to express their identity. Please do not try to apply Western ideas of gender to a character created by a Japanese author with a Japanese audience in mind.
