The High Tatra Mountains (or High Tatras or Vysoke Tatry) is a mountain range along the border of northern Slovakia and southern Poland. It is a range in the Tatra Mountains chain, which in turn is part of the Carpathian Mountains. We took advantage of High Tatras skiing (apline and Nordic), High Tatras hiking, and snowshoeing. WINTER HIKING Seasonal closure Seasonal closure of marked hiking trails in the High Tatras lasts from 1st November until 14th June. At this time, nature and animals enjoy winter rest. Jon E. January 2022 Great trip with Slovakation hiking around the Tatras Mountains. We did 3 hikes up to different lakes and stopped at a mountain hut for food each time. The views were incredible and our guide Tomas was so knowledgeable on the landscape and history and culture of Slovakia. Hike to Vodopád Skok (Waterfall "Jump") Vodopád Skok located at the altitude of 1789 meters is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of High Tatras where you can get easily by following the yellow trail sign from Štrbské pleso. It took us around 90 min to get up there with a total elevation of 400 meters and I found it quiet easy.
Tatranska Lomnica is one of the largest and most beautiful villages in the High Tatras. Located 6 km east of Smokovec, at the foot of Lomnický Peak.
