Mary Read (unknown - 28 April 1721), fictionally known as Mark Read, was an English pirate about whom there is very little factual documentation.. She poses as James Kidd, the illegitimate son of Captain William Kidd, and is a member of the Assassin Order. Mary Read (c. 1685 - 1721) was an English pirate and member of the West Indies Brotherhood of Assassins, trained by the Mentor Ah Tabai. She was also one of the founders of the Pirate Republic of Nassau. In order to facilitate her career as a pirate, she posed as James Kidd, an illegitimate son of the late William Kidd.
