Zootermopsis angusticollis is a species of termite ( Isoptera) in the family Archotermopsidae, a group known as the Pacific dampwood termites, or the rottenwood termites. Zootermopsis angusticollis is a species of termite (Isoptera) in the family Termopsidae, a group known as the dampwood termites. Dampwood termites are one of the larger species of termites found in the United States. Dampwood termites are found in parts of south Florida, throughout the Pacific coastal region, and some areas of semi-arid desert of the southwest. As their name implies, they infest very moist or damp wood. Pacific dampwood termites occur in cool and humid coastal states along the Pacific ocean. They have been found as high as the 6,000 feet above sea level, but are more likely to occur further down in elevation. These termites can vary in colour based on their stomach contents, as can their frass. The Pacific dampwood termite is the largest of the common northwest termite species. It has three castes: reproductives (the winged form), nymphs, and soldiers.

Two are native to British Columbia: the Pacific dampwood termite ( Zootermopsis angusticollis) mainly infests moist deadwood, while the western subterranean termite ( Reticulitermes hesperus) is the region's major termite pest. These termites have a simple yet strict diet of rotting pine or cedar wood. Humidity levels should be kept relatively high, around 70-90% to ensure the brood develops properly and doesn't dry out.
