After seemingly wandering about in the lightweight wilderness for two seasons, Nieto joined the Van Veen Kreidler team to race their ever-more developed, reliable 50cc racers, with over 19bhp on tap, and engines which some observers claimed raced a season without a strip. With six wins and two seconds from eight races he took the title. 1972 : A season plagued by engine failures. 1973 : Jörg Möller works his magic on the race- Kreidlers, resulting in several new track- records. 1974 : Hendrik Van Veen closes down the racedepartment to focus on building a Wankel- engined motorcycle.
