The Weizmann House ( Hebrew: בית ויצמן) was the home of the first President of Israel, Chaim Weizmann, and first First Lady, Vera Weizmann. The house sits atop a hill in Rehovot, and is now part of the Weizmann Institute of Science. The house was designed by Jewish architect Erich Mendelsohn, and is recognized as a masterpiece. Both being scientists, they chose to build their home next to the Daniel Sieff Research Institute, which is now known as the Weizmann Institute of Science. The dwelling was modeled to adapt to its surrounding environment, culture, and climate. Over 80 years after it was built, the house of the first president of the State of Israel - designed by Erich Mendelsohn, one of the giants of modern architecture - continues to garner interest around the world. In parallel with its reopening to the public, the international organization Iconic Houses chose to add Weizmann House to its ranks.
