Dr Granger started the 'hello my name is' campaign in August 2013. As an inpatient with terminal cancer, she was frustrated by how many care staff failed to introduce themselves to her. Her campaign asks frontline NHS staff to introduce themselves to their patients. NHS England's Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Jane Cummings has praised the "Hello My Name Is…" campaign started by terminally ill Dr Kate Granger. The CNO spoke out as it was revealed that more than 100 NHS organisations have now signed up to the social media campaign launched by the 31-year-old hospital consultant. The 'Hello my name is' campaign is focused on reminding staff to introduce themselves to patients properly as it advocates that a confident introduction is the first step to providing. The "Hello, my name is…" campaign (hellomynameis.org.uk), in which NHS staff are encouraged to introduce themselves to patients, is being supported by over 80 NHS organisations in England, Wales, and Scotland and by more than 400 000 doctors, nurses, receptionists, and porters.
