1. I like the Merkur Progress vintage design that was introduced since the 40s or 50s last century. Pretty much this Razor has been in production since it first came out. They did a couple of improvements in the construction, but has been the same razor for a very long time. 1. Both are adjustable. 2. Both are cast/molded from Zamak (pot metal) though the handle on the Variant is made of brass. Not sure on Progress. 3. Both give smooth shaves from mild to wild. 4.

Though they cost roughly the same, the double edge razor offers multiple design improvements including a knurled and longer handle for improved grip and handling. And though the razor is heavy, it has excellent balance. The Variant has a slightly longer handle and it has more heft making it feel more balanced than then Progress. The Parker Variant Adjustable is an excellent option for beginners or enthusiasts thanks to its adjustable feature. This razor addresses some issues that the Merkur Progress had - the biggest of which is the plastic dial. You'll have to pay a premium for the upgraded version called the Mergress.
