The boat was assigned to the 3.u-boot flotille and sank 52,986 tons of enemy shipping on three combat patrols. on february 27. 1942, on the return voyage from the eastern u.s. coast (operation paukenschlag), during an attack on convoy os-18 it was sunk by the british sloop hms rochester and the corvette hms tamarisk, north of the azores.. maintaining a consistent paint scheme throughout its U-boat fleet. Given that the paint itself changed in appearance as the U-boat became weathered, the greys seen upon late-war U-boats would have varied so much that it might not appear as if the colours used on these U-boats were standardised at all.

Since your work on U-Boat colors was so comprehensive I thought I'd ask about some incidental miscellaneous items available in the Revell kit and thru the White Ensign (WEM) photo-etched aftermarket kit.. This paint was a slightly brownish red similar to the "Schiffsbodenfarbe (alternate color)" colour in the S&S paint chip cards. Coastal Patrol There is one photo in particular, that provides a reasonably good indication of the three shades of grey for the upper hull, lower hull, and the deck. It is from this photo I decided to paint my sub in the three Tamiya colours. I am confident that the Tamiya XF-19 is a good match for the upper hull and conning tower. The Wolf Pack III: A Final Collection Of U-Boat Modeling Articles: The second volume of The Wolf Pack continues in the same vein and includes eight more articles. Once again the general theme is to explore the modifications, insignia and paint colors of Kriegsmarine U-boats so that modelers can make accurate renditions of specific U-boats.

Yes I did win second place with my 1/32nd scale type 7C u-boat,and still have the silver bowl to prove it . Since I build R/C boats I look for colors that are easy to apply, touch up , purchase and hold up to the wear and tear of constant use. therefore I use TESTORS FLAT RED, FLAT BLACK AND FLAT LIGHT GRAY. U-boat commander SCHNEE painted his conning tower of his type XXI white because he felt that a ligther color was harder to see from the air. So , as you can see there was alot of variations that depended on time frame of the war etc. Date: March 13, 2004 02:54PM Hi. I've heard that the instructions in the ULAD 1/72 U-Boat decals have paint numbers for Humbrol and Revell. Can anyone post those numbers. I know WEP has a range with "the correct" colors, but I think I won't use for two reasons: 1 - I want acrylic paint. 2 - I want to start painting this weekend. This is the place to discuss general issues related to the U-boat war or the war at sea in WWII. Re: Paint Schemes. I am not 100% sure about the U-boats colour scheme, but I have read about German warship painting. The sources differs a lot in opinions about this, but my own personal view is that the colour schemes were not coordinated that.

Type IX UBoats (1936)

Date: July 14, 2005 12:16PM I read recently a report of some U-Boats in Norwegian bases with varying colour schemes, some were described as blue or grey, one as 'bright' blue and one as black and white. It was this latter that interested me. Arctic patrol obviously, but where all boats operating up there painted black & white? Generally, U-boats were painted in very dark grey ( not hull red) below the waterline, and medium/ light grey above the waterline. The very dark grey extended to the tops of the ballast tanks. U-82 was launched on May 15. 1940 in Bremen (shipyard: Bremer Vulkan). It was officially commissioned for action under Kapitänleutnant Siegfried Rollmann on May 14. 1941. The boat was assigned to the 3.U-boot Flotille and sank 52,986 tons of enemy shipping on three combat patrols. Example model shown with optional "weathering" paint scheme. Type VII U-boats were the most common type of German  submarine in World War II. The Type VII was based on earlier German submarine designs going back to the World War I . Type VII submarines were the most widely used U-boats of the war and were the most produced submarine class in history, with 703 built.  .

the basic colors for the wartime Type VII u-boat is as follows: Vertical surfaces: Conning tower and hull above waterline: Light gray. Hull below waterline: Dark gray. * Please note that the anti-fowling paint was also. available in dark gray. Horizontal surfaces: Main deck and conning tower deck: * Black. You may paint any shade somewhat close to the original. With weathering, combat damage and nobody concerned about spic-and-span looks any war machine (air, sea or land) may have when just built will get damaged or patched over in a very short time.
