An Ordinary Wizarding Level (often abbreviated O.W.L.) was a series of subject-specific standardised tests taken during Hogwarts students' fifth year. These exams were administered by the Wizarding Examinations Authority and had been around since at least the late 1800s. Each subject had its own O.W.L. exam. The score achieved by a student on a particular O.W.L. determined whether or not that. Each fifth year student has a consultation with Professor McGonagall to discuss career paths. This prepares the student for their exams and helps them understand the results they need to proceed to N.E.W.T. level. Harry, Ron and Hermione sat their O.W.L.s during June of their fifth year, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Harry Potter O.w.l. Results RESOLTP
Harry and Ron each earned seven O.W.L.s while Hermione earned eleven - ten Outstandings and one Exceeds Expectations (HBP5). The only grades below "Exceeds Expectations" that Harry got were in History of Magic (he passed out during the exam), Astronomy (the exam during which Hagrid was arrested in full view of the examinees), and Divination […] And he was the Half-Blood Prince, of course. Strictly speaking, that's not official confirmation - nowhere is it explicitly said that you have to have an OWL in a subject to teach it (indeed, we must assume that Hagrid doesn't have one in CoMC) and the Half-Blood Prince could still have, I dunno, been ill or something. So I guess it is a bit. As the results of the OWL exams determine which courses can be taken at the N.E.W.T. level, the O.W.L. exams affect the witch or wizard's career choices. It is for this reason that Harry's meeting with Professor McGonagall concerning choice of careers occurs before the O.W.L. exams. O.W.L.s. "O.W.L.s are really important, affect the jobs you can apply for and everything.". -- Ron Weasley ( OP12) At the end of fifth year, each student sits an Ordinary Wizarding Level (O.W.L.) for each of the classes he or she takes. These are standardized tests administered by the Wizarding Examinations Authority; the teachers may.

The Wizards' Ordinary Magic and Basic Aptitude Test (or W.O.M.B.A.T.) was a series of tests administered by the Wizarding Examinations Authority. The test scores from the W.O.M.B.A.T.s, like the O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s, were accepted as a valid form of credentials for witches and wizards wanting to apply for a job. Unlike the two latter, however, the W.O.M.B.A.T.s consisted exclusively of. Owl post — owls carrying letters and parcels — is one of the most common ways that wizards communicate with each other. The Twins' O.W.L.s. When classes start in Harry's fifth year, O.W.L.s are all anyone wants to talk about. At lunch on the first day, the Weasley twins offer some sage advice about how "it's a nightmare of a year, the fifth, if you care about exam results, anyway.". Ron then comments, "Yeah… you got, what was it, three OWLs each?". Well, Harry's Owl's result is clearly given in the book.
