Islington Green School (IGS) was established in 1966 and was an 11-16 mixed community secondary school. The school failed its Ofsted inspection in 1997. The school had received a 38 per cent pass rate the previous year and despite shortcomings, the staff were convinced that the school was not failing. The decision caused the school to "implode". Since 1884 the Islington Green School site has held three separate sets of school buildings which have been enlarged and adapted as times have changed. The school names have changed over the years. It was reorganised in 1911, and 1934-36. In 1947-1951 it became Tudor Secondary School for Boys and Girls.
