Luss ( Lus, 'herb' in Gaelic) is a village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, on the west bank of Loch Lomond. The village is within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. [1] History Historically in the County of Dunbarton, its original name is Clachan dhu, or 'dark village'. Luss Pier is the focal point for Luss as a tourist destination. Stretching out into Loch Lomond, the views from the end of the pier are some of the most spectacular of the Loch and Ben Lomond. Occupation of this area dates back to medieval times, but much of the village you see today was created in the 18 th and 19 th centuries to house workers from the nearby slate quarries. Luss, situated on the western shore is especially popular; apart from the stunning views there are lots of outdoor activities to enjoy - particularly water sports and boat trips around Loch Lomond.

By TriciaBishop 1: Luss is one of the prettiest villages in Scotland and the fact that it's situated in a prime position overlooking the beautiful Loch Lomond is the icing on the cake. This village is a must-do for anyone visiting The Trossachs National Park.

Often regarded as one of the prettiest Scottish villages, Luss is famous for quaint slate cottages with decorative hanging flower baskets and breathtaking panoramic views of Loch Lomond against the backdrop of mighty Ben Lomond. Other popular attractions of Luss include a historic church and a beautiful small beach. Loch Lomond is easily accessible here and from the pier you are treated to stunning views across it to Ben Lomond, Scotland's most southerly Munro, or individual mountain over 3,000 feet high. Just to the south of the centre of the village, and still overlooking the Loch, is Luss Church, built by the Colquhouns in 1875.
