History of Red Lion Square Gallery In June 1684, the developer Nicholas Barbon gained permission to build a 17-acre site but faced fierce opposition from the neighbouring Gray's Inn lawyers who claimed they were "losing their wholesome air" with the new development. Red Lion Square has been the scene of a pitched battle, is the possible resting place of Oliver Cromwell 's body (but maybe not his head ), is reputed to be haunted and was home to several distinguished folk, including William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

Not a bad size, offering mainly lawn with walking paths throughout, seating, statues, and a cafe. No Lion. Not sure how it got the name.
