In its simplest form, an open fire, room heater or stove fitted with a back-boiler can be linked to an existing or new central heating system. The existing or primary boiler continues to service the system as and when required. The hot water and radiators can be supplied by either or both appliances depending on the heat required. SOLID FUEL CENTRAL HEATING CONTROL SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION The Charnwood Central Heating Control System is designed to control any solid fuel heating system which operates by means of a pump, and where the boiler has a water temperature sensing thermostat. It consists of an Electronic Timer, 2 Pipe Thermostats, and a Wiring Centre.

Central heating diagrams: (Another hurriedly thrown together page I'm afraid.) People often ask me for central heating diagrams showing how the pipework circuits are arranged in a central heating system. There are almost infinite variations but there are four main types; Gravity One-pipe Semi-gravity Fully-pumped You must not fully pump a solid fuel heating system. Think about it. If you are using an oil or gas boiler and there is a power cut, not only does the central heating pump stop, but the boiler overheats and goes out. Most systems are "Fail safe". A solid fuel system will carry on producing hot water as long as there is fuel in the fire to burn.

The existing central heating boiler continues to service the system with hot water as necessary. The radiators, adjusted to the desired temperature, can be heated by your open fire or by the existing boiler or a combination of both. 'Link-up' can be installed so that the open fire heats either or both the hot water cylinder and the radiators. Most central heating systems are powered by hydro, natural gas or, in the case of homes where there is no gas connection available, oil stored locally in a tank. Some apartments and houses use electric boilers, although these are the most expensive with regards to running costs. diagrams (pages 4-5). The central heating needs no valve as it is the only pumped circuit (if you wanted upstairs/downstairs, you would need two valves, but for a single heating zone no valve is required). Your time clock and room stat will simply turn the pump on and off. So simples Lectrician, Sep 14, 2011 #3 J.P. New Member The boiler is a solid fuel stove with a back boiler with a gravity fed hot water circuit and a pumped central heating circuit. I would like to control the pump with a room thermostat, timeclock and 2 pipe thermostats, 1 with a override "off" at 45 degs and one with an override "on" at 90 degs.
The diagrams are for vented / open type & closed / pressurised types of central heating systems. Our multi fuel boilers and stoves are just as happy to operate in either plumbing system however please let us know at the time of ordering as open / vented type unit will be specked for your order. A solid fuel boiler can be an ideal choice of heating system for off-grid properties. They burn solid fuel such as wood or coal (not recommended) and make a great alternative to gas, oil and electricity. Traditional solid fuel boilers are stoves which can be connected to the central heating system. A more modern approach would be to fit a. The diagram below shows a typical layout for a central heating system. It is important that there is a heat sink (such as a radiator or hot water tank) next in line from the stove and above the stove.
