The Ford 6.6 and 7.8 diesel engines are medium duty truck engines primarily used from 1985-1994. They were popular in B series buses along with the F-600, F-800, and F-900. Ford 6.6L and 7.8L diesel engines are officially the Ford-New Holland engines and may also be known as the Ford "Brazilian" diesels.

Just curious. The 6.6 is a 400 inch Ford based on the "Modified Cleveland" architecture. It has the bigblock bolt pattern on the bellhousing flange. There are some good posts on this engine series in the recent 351M thread (same engine family). The 7.8L was rated at 270hp..I think the 6.6L was rated at 185 to 225. The 7.8 had an intercooler in front of the radiator..the 6.6 just ran a tube across the valve cover. Come to think about it, I found an original in the box Ford block heater kit for this motor in the bottom of my tool box. Guess some guy ordered it and his already had one.
