This was the era where hair was backcombed and sprayed with toxic amounts of Aquanet, and the outfits were DIY with leather, lace, and fishnets. It's been quite the year for '80s goth revivalism. Three separate book on the genre - The Art Of Darkness: The History Of Goth by John Robb, Season of the Witch: The Book of Goth by Cathi Unsworth and the just-published and snappily-titled Goth: A History by The Cure 's co-founder Lol Tolhurst - have appeared. The key band in goth's second wave were the Sisters Of Mercy, formed in Leeds in 1980 by drummer-turned-singer Andrew Eldritch (né Taylor) and guitarist Gary Marx (born Marc Pearman). By 1983, they included bassist Craig Adams and guitarist Wayne Hussey, formerly of Liverpool goth-pop band Dead Or Alive. Traditional Goth (sometimes shortened to Trad Goth ), also known as Batcave and Positive-Punk, came about with the original music genre in the late 70's and early 80's, making it based on the goth aesthetics of that time, hence the name 'traditional' goth.
