Step 1: Build the Porch Swing Bed Frame. For this porch swing bed, I started off by building the main bed frame out of the 1×8's. You can find the measurements in the illustration. On these joints, I used 2″ finish nails. Then I added an inner frame for support and something to nail the bed slats to. On the sides, I used 2×4's for some. Step 1: Assemble Swing Seat Frame. Align the edges, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure them into place tightly. Fitting the base slats. Fit the 1×4 slats to the bottom of the bed frame. Align the edges and place a piece of 3 3/4″ lumber between the slats, so you create even gaps. Use 1 5/8″ screws to lock the slats into place tightly. Flip your porch swing bed over so that the bottom is now facing the ceiling. Apply an even coat of glue to the bottom of the legs and bottom stretchers. On the front side, line the bottom runner up with the front of the legs. On the back, line the bottom runner up with the back of the legs. Each end should overhang 2.5".
