Place the 1/4'' line point-to-point on the corner of the red tri-recs triangles and trim all the way around the outside of the quilt top for nice straight edges. If you aren't sure, please revisit the graphic for half-blocks above. It shows where to place the 1/4'' line. Take a "Victory Lap" around the outside edge of the quilt top, stitching. Each pair of squares will yield 2 hourglass units. Place one red and one dark blue square with right sides together and slice twice from corner to corner with an X to yield 4 matched pairs of quarter-square triangle ready to sew. You will need 18 red squares and 18 blue squares to complete the 36.

For Part One, we'll be starting easy. Part One is half-square triangles! Make 36 sets of 4 half-square triangle units that measure 3 1/2'' unfinished and will finish at 3'' in the quilt.
