China (Chinese: 中国; pinyin: Zhōngguó), officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a country in East Asia.With a population exceeding 1.4 billion, it is the world's second-most-populous country.China spans the equivalent of five time zones and borders fourteen countries by land. With an area of nearly 9.6 million square kilometers (3,700,000 sq mi), it is the third-largest. China's map is shaped like a rooster (公鸡 gōngjī). Despite the surprise and disbelief this may at first elicit, it's common knowledge and a regularly discussed fact among in-the-know Chinese citizens and China watchers. Take a gander at a map of the country and you'll quickly see the resemblance.
The map shows the provinces of China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), a vast country in East Asia. The PRC is bounded by the East China Sea, the Korea Bay, the Yellow Sea, and the South China Sea. China borders 14 countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal.
