EVO: Oiling & Lubrication Engine Oil System The Sportster Oiling Cycle is defined in the FSMs. However, that description is vague in some of the intricate transitions of the oil path in the engine. There are two fittings on the top of the S&S pump. The Harley pump has two fitting as well, one is on the bottom, and the other is in the face of the pump.

In the case of the Evo, you'd attach a cooler to the return line from the filter, before returning to the pump/oil tank. The feed line is from the lowest point in the oil tank to the outside (right) fitting in the top of the pump. The return line is from the other pump cover fitting to one of the upper points in the oil tank. SOURCE: Part number for oil filter for a 1996 Harley.
