Open and press the seam toward the dark coral fabric. 3. Trim the ends of the strip sets to make them even. Sub-cut each strip set into 4 pieces that are 6 1/2'' wide. There will be a bit of fabric leftover from each strip set. 4. Sew one piece from each strip set together as seen to make a four patch block. Easy, peasy. Make 42 blocks. From the Background fabric cut 5 strips 6 ½″ x WOF and 2 strips 9 ¾″ x WOF. (Here are some tips for cutting straight strips .) From the 6 ½″ strips, cut 30 squares 6 ½″ x 6 ½″ (you should be able to get 6 squares from each strip). From the 9 ¾″ strips cut 6 squares 9 ¾″ x 9 ¾″ and 2 squares 5 ¼″ x 5 ¼″.

The first step is to find the repeat of the print and cut four pieces using that repeat. The challenge comes at trying to get all four pieces lined up, one on top of the other perfectly. Using lots of straight pins and lots of time I came pretty close. My repeat was about twelve inches. I did not try to cut the strips on the width of the fabric. Make the four Pinwheel Cornerstones. Use the 32 remainder 2" x 2" squares of pink print and contrasting small print to make the pinwheels. Put one of each of the squares, right side together and sew once on the diagional. Trim excess from one side leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. Open the block and press.
