Most of the X-170s I see in the wild are blonde, and my first X-170 was just such a beast. This guitar was made during the Fender era of Guild and included the less desirable Fender HB1 pickups which made it a bit woofy for my tastes. Named the X-170 "Mini-Manhattan", it was slightly narrower and thinner than it's distinguished predecessor. As X-500 said he paid more for his (in mint condition). I paid a lot less for mine, but then I got it new in '87 or '88 (and got a good deal even for the time) If I could have only one archtop, it would be either the X-170 or a Guild X-500, they are definitely players guitars and, IMHO, unmatched by any guitar anywhere near their price range.

This guitar is a Guild X170T which means that it's a Guild X-170 with a Tremolo - hence the T. The rant about it being a vibrato and not a tremolo tailpiece has been redacted. If you'd like to learn more about regular Guild X170s, I did a writeup of one here. This Guild X-170 T is named after Guild's very first workshop in Manhattan, New York and is very reminiscent of vintage jazz guitars that made their way out of the 40's and 50's. Here's Jesse.
