STEP ONE: Wipe down the door with mild soapy water to prepare the surface for painting. STEP TWO: Remove doorknobs or tape around them with Frog or Painter's tape . It was about 10 degrees outside and snowing when I decided to paint our front door, so I removed just one doorknob then taped around the other. On the LRV scale, Iron Ore paint sits at a low 6. While very close to black, you can still tell that Iron Ore isn't pure and holds some gray undertones. However, you still can't expect it to reflect much light.
