Some of the tourist favorites are the afore-mentioned road to Hana on Maui, the Keane Arboretum and botanical garden, also on Maui; the Keahua Arboretum on Kauai and on Kaloko Drive near Kailua-Kona on the Big Island. Kauai's forests are a paradise for the rainbow eucalyptus tree. The combination of high rainfall and warm, yet comfortable temperatures creates the perfect climate for these trees to flourish. In addition to these unique trees, Kauai is also abundant with many other types of plant life. The rainbow eucalyptus bark has patches of lime green and orange that occur naturally. We almost missed this amazing sight, though, since there are no signs indicating you've arrived at the arboretum in east Kauai. We took Hwy. 56 north from Lihue, crossed the Waimea River Bridge, then took Kuamo'o Road about 5 miles.
