Welcome to Larry Allen Pottery! Each piece of stoneware from Larry Allen Pottery is hand-crafted solely by Larry Allen. Larry is an accomplished artist whose works are increasingly sought after by collectors in the Southeast, and throughout the country. His vessels are inspired largely by Native American and African art, and are authentic, beautiful and functional. Larry Allen was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He received a BA degree in Art from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky in May 1978. Larry has an art studio in Leeds, Alabama where he resides. In 2007 one of his vases was presented on behalf of the Alabama State Council of the Arts as a gift to Pulitzer Prize winner and author, Harper Lee.

BIOGRAPHY. Larry Allen makes a wide range of both functional forms meant for everyday use and larger decorative vessel related forms meant for display. His pottery is wheel-thrown using black stoneware clay with decorative techniques including sgraffito, multiple glaze stages and firings. Each piece is coated with slip. From the first moment Larry Allen saw vessels formed on the potter's wheel, he was fascinated. To this day Allen still has not forgotten the fascination he first felt.Allen has exhibited and sold my work throughout the United States. Bio. Larry has spent decades perfecting the glazes and techniques you can find today in his art work. All of his pottery is wheel-thrown and mostly involves a technique known as Sgraffito. This is a sophisticated method of incising designs onto leather-hard clay that has been completely covered with a colored slip (clay solution).
