The visitor center was small but nice.

Malus-Beauregard house, currently used as the Chalmette Battlefield's Visitor and Interpretive Center, while a new Center is being built. The Beauregard home, which sits on the Chalmette Battlefield, site of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, was constructed approximately 18 years after the battle, in about 1833 (exact date is uncertain). Also on the battlefield site is the Malus-Beauregard House. This two-story house of stucco-covered brick, never part of a plantation, was built for Madeleine Pannetier Malus between 1832 and 1834; she died in 1835. The Malus-Beauregard House, nestled at Chalmette Battlefield, is a restoration of an early 1800s mansion near New Orleans. Constructed in the early 1830s, the Malus-Beauregard House is a great piece of history meticulously restored for the public. This house was never associated with plantations but was instead a country home for many wealthy. The Malus-Beauregard House, an antebellum plantation, also stands on the grounds. The battlefield is a unit of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service.

The Rene Beauregard House is located on the site of the Battle of New Orleans. Built approximately eighteen years after the battle, the house therefore has no historical association with that historic encounter.
