Today I want to share a quilt that took me two years and about 85 hours to complete - my Postage Stamp quilt! I got so many questions on Instagram every time I posted pictures of this project so I will try to cover all the FAQ's here. A postage stamp quilt is a type of quilt that features small patches of fabric, typically cut from vintage fabric or clothing, arranged in a mosaic pattern to create the appearance of a postage stamp. The fabric pieces are usually cut into 2 inch squares and arranged in a repeating pattern on a quilt top. What is a postage stamp quilt? Traditional postage stamp quilts are made using 1 inch finished size squares. The squares are usually cut one by one at 1 1/2 inch unfinished size with as many different fabrics as the quilter has saved from other quilting projects. Making the quilt in this fashion takes a lot, and I do mean a lot, of time. Postage stamp quilts have no rhyme or reason other than that they're made of teeny, tiny (1.5″ tiny!) squares of fabric. You can trade postage stamp quilt squares with other crafters, or sew entirely from your own scraps. I've been working on my postage stamp quilt for years, now, and I don't expect to finish it until I'm old.
