Quick ATV Spark Check To quickly tell if your ATV is getting spark, remove the spark plug from the engine. Reinsert the plug back into the coil wire. Hold the electrodes of the spark plug close to the engine to ground it, and try starting the engine. If you see spark coming from the end of the spark plug, your ATV engine is getting spark.

I checked all the fuses, checked the coil, everything is good. Changed out the spark plug, still nothing. Changed the spark plug wire, notta. i pulled the code with the wire trick. If you're battery isn't the problem, maybe something else in the electrical system is preventing the quad from starting. Time to check for spark. Is The ATV Getting Spark? If your engine's not getting any spark, or getting weak spark, it won't start at all. The engine will turn over, but will never be able to ignite the fuel and get running. FIRST STEP: BYPASS YOUR SWITCHES A very common cause of no spark is a defective ignition or kill switch. Before beginning to troubleshoot ignition problems, it is best to bypass the switches. How to bypass your switches Create a jumper wire from pin #4 directly to a good grounding spot on the engine. 6. No Spark From The Spark Plugs. 1. Verify The No Spark Condition Before we begin troubleshooting, you need to be 100% sure that the ATV really does not produce spark. To do that, make sure that the battery is good and is fully charged. A fully charged battery should have 12.4-12.6 Volts. Adjust valves and re check compression. Inspect for bent valves, scored head, scored cylinder wall or seated piston rings. Replace defective part. Not Starting (Machine turns over but will not start) Test for spark. (Remove the spark plug from the block, place it in the ignition coil and ground it to the engine.
6 Common reasons an ATV won't start, include: Flat battery - jump or charge battery. Loose battery terminals - tighten terminals. Fouled spark plug - clean or replace plug. Flooded engine - dry out cylinder. Stale gas - drain and refill. Faulty starter solenoid - test & replace. The most common culprit in these situations is a faulty kill switch. A simple means to test this would be to disconnect the kill switch wire from the CDI and try firing it up. If it makes spark (or better still, starts) then you know it's one of the machine's kill switches. Most Chinese ATVs have many of these unfortunately- A handlebar.

Disable the fuel system, by removing the fuel pump fuse or relay. Insert a spark plug tester, into the plug boot and ground it on a piece of metal on the engine.
