Vintage Schultz & Dooley Original Beer Steins WEBCO Pair of Etsy
In 1959, trading on the popularity of television commercials for Utica Club beer starring two talking beer steins named Schutz and Dooley, the West End Brewing Company (WEBCO) contracted to import 5,000 ceramic sets of the now-famous duo from German stein manufacturer KING-Werk. The original Schultz and Dooley (Figure 1) are easy to recognize by the markings "59-CSM" in blue lettering on Schultz and "59-CDM", initially in green and then in teal lettering on Dooley, printed below the handles. In August of 1959 an order was placed for 1,000 sets of the pair from German manufacturer KING-Werk, marked as shown in Figure 2a.
