1910s Titanic Era Shoe History At the turn of the century, shoes were designed to make feet look smaller- curved French Louis heels, tight button or lace boots, and long narrow toes. These illusions quickly lost favor for the more practical heel and wider toe. At the same time time the arches and shaft grew taller so as not to loose all femininity. Fashion in 1910 was unique. It retained much of the class and style of the previous era, but with a simplified flare. 10 May 2016 Dressing a man in the 1910s, during the late Edwardian fashion era, was not very different from today. Men's Edwardian fashion included suits during the day, formal tailcoats for evening, and slightly more casual attire for sporting events. Titanic style shoes, Edwardian shoes, Downton Abbey shoes, and World War I boots all of these phrases refer to different 1900-1910s style women's shoes.Common Edwardian shoe styles included boots for walking, slippers, mules for evening dinners, and Mary Jane flats or Oxfords for home use. The secret to the design is in the ornamentation. Dyed to match the dress, formal shoes had glass beads. The pegged sole booties were purchased for $1.25 and $1.30 per pair as opposed to the average of about $1.90 for sewn soles, but the sewn soles were preferred. These ship from Florida. The Edwardian Era, 1890s-1900-1910s, followed the path of Victorian men's boots and shoes with little change. Lace up dress boots were the everyday shoe for all classes. Heavy boots were worn for work, and lighter boots for business and leisure. Black, brown and the snazzy two tone boots were the norm. Calfskin, kid, suede, lizard, alligator, and goat were the most popular. Both matte finish and shiny patent leather was equally as popular for the daytime. Meanwhile, evening shoes required heels that sparkled with a high sheen. Colors for day shoes tended to be shades of black, brown, grey, and beige (called blonde).
