01.23. TG&Y TG&Y was a five and dime, or variety store, chain in the United States. The chain was named for its three founders: Rawdon E. Tomlinson, Enoch L. "Les" Gosselin, and Raymond A. Young. The initials were ordered according to the age of the three, with Tomlinson being the oldest. Founded by Raymond A. Young in the late 1920s, TG&Y was the first store based in Oklahoma to reach over a billion dollars in sales, and grew to more than nine hundred stores across the United States by the end of the twentieth century. In its golden days, TG&Y was based in Oklahoma City and had 900 stores from California to Florida. The chain pulled in about $2 billion annually in sales at its peak. But the good times didn't last.
