Trader Joe's Birds Nests have been around a good while now and are universally loved by my vegan (and non vegan) friends alike. The onions definitely stand out in this dish so if you are expecting the type of tempura vegetables like you would get at a Japanese restaurant, these are a tad different. The addition of kale also gives this an. The pros: Trader Joe's Vegetable Birds Nests is a quick appetizer ready in about 10 minutes. If you enjoy fritters, you'll probably like this. Sauce was a very tasty tempura sauce. You probably won't even need the second packet. Nests are good on their own, but the sauce is what really makes them.

This is a copycat recipe of Trader Joe's Vegetable Bird's Nests, which is a simple kakiage tempura made with onions, carrots and kale. You can enjoy it with rice or Trader Joe's new Matcha Soba Noodles. They're ideal if you want to save half of the box for later. Cooking the bird's nests in the oven took about 20 minutes, but they were definitely worth the wait. The moment we opened our oven, a strong onion scent wafted through the air. These snacks smell exactly like freshly-cooked onion rings.
