25 January 2022 Crystal Pool is a glorious wild swimming hole in Royal National Park which despite its beauty, still flies under the radar. The pool is fed by a picturesque cascade and surrounded by dense bushland, it's like a little patch of paradise. As the walk to get here is really short, it's the perfect spot to come on a hot day. 1. Burning Palms Burning Palms is my personal favourite in the park. It feels cut off from the outside world, with no road access, so the only way to get here is on foot. This generally keeps the crowds away. The beach is nestled between two headlands, giving it a really secluded feel. Royal National Park on the southern fringes of the city is the world's second oldest national park, after Yellowstone. It stretches over 16,000 hectares and contains over 27 kilometres of spectacular coastline, 11 beaches, a plethora of tranquil creaks, swimming holes and waterfalls. An increasingly popular swimming hole and Instagram spot, the Figure 8 Pool in the Royal National Park is a natural ocean rock pool that has been perfectly formed into the shape of an '8'. It was formed by two circular sinkholes merging. The pool is only about 3 metres long (and 3 metres deep), but often appears deceptively larger in photos. Wattamolla Beach is the perfect base to do one or more hikes nearby. It is interesting to note that the Royal Coast Track, the 26 km long hike between Bundeena and Otford, passes Wattamolla, which means you can do smaller sections of this iconic hike, either northbound or southbound.. 1. Providential Point Lookout. The most obvious trail to do when in Wattamolla is the short walking track. Winifred Falls in Royal National Park is one of the best waterfalls you can swim in close to Sydney. The cascades plunge into a large swimming hole, completely surrounded by bushland. It's a beautiful spot and the perfect place to cool off on a hot day. Right by the boat shed is the Royal National Park visitor centre which also houses a gift shop and cafe. You can purchase your day pass here for $12 if you don't already have a NSW national park pass. South West Arm Pool.
