Wool Bay (formerly Pickering) is a locality and a former government town in the Australian state of South Australia on the east coast of southern Yorke Peninsula. It is located between Stansbury and Coobowie on Yorke Peninsula, approximately 220 kilometres from Adelaide by road, but only just over 60 km due west across Gulf St Vincent . Description 215km from Adelaide It's almost three hours by road from Adelaide to Wool Bay, but it's worth the trip. Here you'll find one of the best squidding jetties in South Australia. A casual stroll along the jetty will reveal wall-to-wall squid ink, indicating just how many of the delectable cephalopods are caught here annually. Wool Bay Jetty is another wonderful diving site located approximately 2.5 hours away from Adelaide, on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. Wool Bay offers relatively shallow diving amongst sea-grass meadows and intertidal rocky reef, with an average depth of 3 m / 9 ft. Just 224 kilometres from Adelaide, Wool Bay is the perfect place to leave behind a fast-paced life, lie back, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet with its sandy beaches, great fishing and moderate year-round weather. A short drive north from Edithburgh jetty is Wool Bay, one of the best snorkel sites for beginners to spot the elusive leafy seadragon. Part of Lower Yorke Peninsula Marine Park, the jetty lies in shallow waters and is surrounded by seagrass, the preferred habitat of leafy seadragons. In simple terms, the calcium carbonate in the limestone breaks down into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide, and the resulting white powdery residue can be mixed with water and sand to make a strong and enduring type of mortar. In 1882 a jetty was built to take advantage of the safe anchorage with deep water close inshore.
