Das Hallesche Tor befand sich bis 1876 im heutigen Berliner Ortsteil Kreuzberg südlich des Mehringplatzes am Halleschen Ufer. Heute trägt ein denkmalgeschützter U-Bahnhof an der Stelle des ehemaligen Tores den Namen Hallesches Tor. Hallesches Tor and Mehringplatz were constructed in the 18th century, during the time of Frederick the Great. It was, literally, a gate towards a city called Halle. Back then, cities had walls all the way around them, which they closed at night to keep out ruffians and, I suppose, invading armies. Hallesches Tor is a Berlin U-Bahn station in the central Kreuzberg quarter, served by lines U1, U3, and U6.
