The Matra Murena is a mid-engined, rear wheel drive sports car that was produced from 1980 through 1983 by the French engineering group Matra. The factory was located in the commune of Romorantin-Lanthenay in the department of Loir-et-Cher in central France. Development history relatively high weight the car is reasonable quick - 0-100 km/h is done in 11.2 sec. The 2.2 version is somewhat heavier, but has 25HP more, which pushes it from 0-100km/h in 9.6 seconds. Moderate tuning of the 2.2 engine (primarily a performance camshaft) easily increases the power by another 25HP. Introduction Timeline Model Timeline May 1976 Work begins on Project M551, a new sports car The Bagheera was a good example of that old cliché, 'racing improves the breed', and following Jackie Stewart's world championship at the wheel of a Matra-Tyrrell and back-to-back Le Mans victories in 1973/74, Matra's credentials were impeccable. With 91bhp on tap (along with 97lb ft of torque) the 1.6-litre Murena was reasonably swift, with a 113mph top speed and the ability to sprint from 0-62mph in 11.8 seconds. But the car looked faster so for those with great expectations, within a year there was a 2155cc four-pot option, an engine borrowed from the Tagora 2.2.

Dear friends of classic automobiles, I offer a nice Matra Murena 3.0 V6! The car has had an engine conversion and it has an Alfa Romeo 164 3.0 V6 engine with 180 hp. We completely overhauled the engine in 2021. The car has a nice leather interior set and many new parts. The paintwork is reasonably nice, but it is no longer new. A takeover of Matra's pioneering Espace MPV concept by Renault from PSA sadly put paid to the Murena V6's planned introduction though, as the smaller, more affordable and appealing mid-engined V6 Matra would have created too strong an in-house competitor to Renault's own rear-engined Alpine A310 V6. Renault callously canned the entire. Home Classic Cars Matra 1984 TALBOT - MATRA MURENA S For Sale A very rare opportunity to purchase a genuine S - with the perfect reg. Possibly the only one on UK roads at present ? The Matra Murena is an unusual mid-engined French sports car from the early 1980s, it features the wedge-shaped styling that was so in vogue at the time, and it looks almost like a sibling of cars like the Fiat X1/9 or the DeLorean DMC-12. Much like the sports cars being built by companies like Lotus and Matra's fellow Frenchmen at Alpine.

The Murena was actually the first production car to use galvanized steel for all chassis parts. The engine selection was different, however. The more powerful version employed the 2.2 (Chrysler France engine), which also served as the base engine for the top of the range Talbot Tagora saloon This engine was also available with the so-called "S. Matra did not give up on the idea of a faster Murena, but Peugeot would not play ball: a promising V12 designed by André Legan was passed over after not progressing far beyond the drawing board. A version powered by the 2.9-litre PRV V6 engine (Tagora, Volvo 760, Peugeot 604 and DeLorean DMC-12 among others) was similarly vetoed.

10,680 were produced Read Owners' Reviews Introduction The Matra Murena was a logical development of the Bagheera. It was actually sold as the Talbot-Matra Murena in PSA dealers across Europe, and was a subtle upmarket move for the company, which was pinning its hopes on a long-term furure partnership with PSA. The Murena shown on this picture looks like an ordinary Murena, but has a very powerful V6 engine modification. I have also taken pictures from the left and right side. Exact specs I do not know, but I estimate (from Alfa 164 figures) 186 bhp and 255 Nm torque, giving the Murena the power and speed it deserves.
