A year after the release of the Peugeot 205 GTi, Renault unveiled a GTi destined to rival Sochaux's car, the Supercinq GT Turbo. It took up some mechanical parts of the 11 Turbo, with a 115 horsepower turbo engine. The low weight (830 kg) allowed remarkable performance. The car had a restyling in 1987 and a special version dedicated to driver. Under the bonnet, Renault 18 Turbo featured a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a Garrett T3 turbocharger delivering 110 hp.
